Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How come it costs between $325 to $400 to reglaze a bathtub and I can buy one
for $225?
A. Most new tubs of this price range are not of the same quality as most older
tubs. The new tub is very thin and may not last as long as a result. When new
bathtubs are manufactured they are done on an assembly line, so many tubs can be
cranked out in a short period of time. This reduces manufacturing costs plus all
of the equipment stays in one place. In the making of a new porcelain tubs,
involves putting the bathtub in a kiln and baking it at 1700 to 1800 degrees F.
This process cannot be done in home, as obviously, it would cause severe heat
damage to the house.
To reglaze a bathtub, in place, involves moving the reglazing equipment to the
location of the installed bathtub. To deliver a high quality reglazing job, in
home, involves the utilization of many thousands of dollars of equipment, and
high quality BathMaster materials. The technician is highly trained and very
skilled at his craft. The BathMaster materials used are specifically engineered
to be used in a house. Even at $275 to $350 per bathtub, you save about 75% of
replacement cost. Consider the plumbing, the tub wall enclosure, the flooring,
also the logistics of removing the bathtub from the house, the door jams may
have to be removed, and even the walls in a lot of cases. An average bathtub
replacement estimate is $1500 and may go to $3000 to $4000 in some houses.
Q. Is all bathtub reglazing the same?
A. No!! Absolutely not! Different reglazing companies use different products and
different procedures, and the results, of course, are not the same. Some
reglazers will paint a bathtub with a marine paint, or epoxies. Some reglazers
use acrylics, or other industrial coatings that are not engineered specifically
for resurfacing bathtubs (i.e.: car paint will not do). Reglazers use a variety
of different types of spray equipment. Some use conventional sprayers which will
create a lot of unnecessary over spray, or mists in the air. BathMaster TM
utilizes only state of the art, specially designed equipment which reduces over
spray to as close to zero as possible, and has equipment that takes the steps
necessary to not only make the work environment safe, but allows for the
BathMaster TM Premium TM reglazing process to be done with no mess, or odor, or
damage which could result from over spray or paint mists. BathMaster's TM
materials are specifically engineered for resurfacing bathtubs. With the
BathMaster Premium System, bathtubs can be reglazed with no disruption to
occupants of home.
Q. Why do different companies charge different prices?
A. It's like anything else you may get in the market place - you get what you pay
for. To do a bathtub for only $200, the process has to be short cutted, and a
cheaper material has to be used. Also, the specialized equipment may not be part
of this process.
To reglaze bathtubs professionally, so it will look like new and last for many
years, there can be no compromise on materials, procedure, or equipment. This
will cost a few dollars more but you will be happy with the results.
